SUNDER | QUARANTINE SHORT FILM
Release: LIFT-OFF SESSIONS 2020
Log-Line:A lonely woman's movie night is disrupted by the arrival of an unexpected visitor.
Synopsis: Jane is a lonely woman who watches her favourite film on a lonely night.
As her TV breaks down and her door is forced, Jane attempts to protect herself from her worst enemy — herself.
“SUNDER” started as an attempt to keep a healthy mindset by staying creative with my mother and the tools available to us during the uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic.
After staying in lockdown for a couple of weeks with no clear information regarding the situation and being bombarded by the sensationalist media, I realised that the pandemic displayed a clear disparity and inequality of our society and culture.
The link between the lockdown and social inequality was something that really struck me and affected me as the gradient between classes and socioeconomic status increased with the poor being poorer and the rich showed little to no help bombarding social media with empty messages and complaints.
SUNDER is an attempt to creatively communicate a divide — a split — in society that we will only overcome through empathy by putting ourselves in someone else’s shoes. This is done through the exploration of the Thriller’s conventions and making reference to the master of the genre — Alfred Hitchcock.
